Wins Top Award From International Association of Business
Communicators/Sacramento Chapter
Sacramento, CA [5/15/09] – The Sacramento Chapter of
the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)
recently awarded Wiley Design Communications, Inc. a first
place Crystal Award of Excellence for the agency’s work
on the American Cancer Society’s Annual Report. The
Crystal Award, which recognizes excellence in the field of
communications in the Sacramento region, was presented to
Wiley Design Communications during the awards ceremony on
May 14, 2009.
“It’s always an honor to be recognized for our
work, especially by our peers,” said Wiley Design Communications
(WDC) President and Creative Director Jean Wiley. In the past
10 years, WDC has received 49 best practice awards from professional
communications organizations.
WDC received the Crystal award for the American Cancer Society’s
2008 Annual Report “Access” campaign. The theme
“Access” focused on the American Cancer Society’s
effort to provide all Californians access to education, programs
and services to reduce cancer risk in their lives. Many forms
of cancer are treatable if caught early and lifestyle factors,
e.g. physical inactivity, obesity and tobacco, are preventable
through education.
Through the Society’s large network of volunteers,
healthcare professionals, researchers, and educators, the
focus was to reach and impact the underserved communities
of the state. Hispanic outreach by bi-lingual volunteers,
recruiting participants for the Cancer Prevention Study, and
working on the national program “Relay for Life”
to educate and fundraise on behalf of the American Cancer
Society were some of the year’s achievements.
As a result, 100 percent of respondents surveyed felt that
the 2008 Annual Report effectively communicates the efforts
of the Society in a straightforward, user-friendly format,
and 92 percent of respondents felt the report represents the
California Division in a comprehensive manner.
“We are very proud of receiving this award, but we
are equally proud of the fact that our work successfully connects
our client’s message with their audience,” said
Wiley. The American Cancer Society has been a WDC client for
nearly 20 years.

Awarded Rebranding Campaign for the California Department
of Water Resources
Sacramento, CA [5/9/09] – Brand development and marketing
firm Wiley Design Communications, Inc. (WDC) has been awarded
the contract to develop a rebranding campaign for the California
Department of Water Resources. WDC will rebrand the Department
of Water Resources (DWR) publications to create a cohesive
and integrated process for easier and timely publication of
the many DWR in-house communications materials.
“The Department of Water Resources is looking to update
and refresh their brand to better reflect their professional
status as an authority on water issues,” said Jean Wiley,
president and creative director of Wiley Design Communications.
“We are excited at the opportunity and look forward
to working with the DWR team to evolve their brand in really
exciting ways.”
The rebranding will include a revamping of the wide spectrum
of DWR’s publications, from overview plans to technical
reports, flyers, press releases, and Power Point templates.
Wiley Design Communications will provide visual solutions
and an overall consistent design to facilitate communication
including a color palette, typographic standards, and readability
charts and tables.
“Communications materials coming out of the Department
of Water Resources reaches a large audience base including
the State Legislature, DWR executives, associated resource
agencies, the general public and the media,” said Wiley.
“The message of sustaining and improving water resources
is an incredibly important one right now.”
The awarding of the DWR rebranding campaign comes at the
heels of another rebranding campaign just completed for EdFund
by Wiley Design Communications. “EdFund was in the same
position last year – wanting to refresh and update their
brand,” said Wiley.
Using a newly redesigned logo and website as the launching
point, WDC extended and augmented the EdFund brand, retooling
publications to better target audience segment groups. These
included magazines and brochures, print ads and tradeshow
displays.
